Oded was a prophet of Samaria, which is the name of a northern part of the land of Israel, during the reign of King Pekah of Israel. After Pekah invaded Judah and defeated the army of King Ahaz, he brought 200,000 captives back to Samaria. Oded went out to meet the army returning to Samaria, and convinced the leaders to free the captives.
The captives were fed and clothed, donkeys were given to the weak to ride on, and sandals were put on their feet. The captives were then brought to Jericho, to their brethren. The army then returned to Samaria. (2 Chronicles 28:8-15).
