First Century AD (About 2,000 years ago)
The writing of the New Testament begins and ends during the first century, about 2,000 years ago.
The 27 books of the New Testament, which includes the four Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, are written by apostles, disciples, and other followers of Jesus. The New Testament is the one document that contains the official record of the birth, life, ministry, teachings, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus.
The New Testament is the answer to the promises that were made in the Old Testament, namely the promise that God would carry out his plan of salvation which would involve the Messiah suffering and dying for the sins of others.
The New Testament and the Old Testament comprise the whole of the Christian Bible, which is commonly referred to simply as the Bible. It is the most translated, published, and circulated book in the world.
