70 AD (About 1,900 years ago)
Near the end of his public ministry, in about early AD 30, Jesus foretold that Jerusalem would reject him as the Messiah and that the great city, which had served as the center of Jewish life for nearly 1,000 years, would fall to Gentiles and be trampled upon by Gentiles, until the age of Gentiles had come to an end:
Jerusalem will be trampled down by the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. (Luke 21:24b, WEB)
About 40 years later, the Romans destroyed Jerusalem, reducing it to ash and debris. Since then, Jerusalem has been dominated by Gentiles for nearly 2,000 years.
Gentiles refers to people who are not Jewish.
Since the time of Jesus’ prophecy, Jerusalem has been dominated and controlled by Gentiles, in fulfillment of his prophecy.
