Sychar

Sychar is a town in Samaria, which is a region of Israel, where Jesus spoke with a Samaritan woman. The conversation is very important to the study of Jesus Christ. The Gospel of John tells us that Jesus stopped in Sychar to rest. There, he meets a woman who has come to a well - Jacob's well - to draw water.

During the first century, women were often treated as second-class citizens, but Jesus, even though he is tired, and even though there was great animosity between Jews and Samaritans, treats the woman with great respect and evangelizes to her. Jesus informs her that he is the Messiah. The conversation is recorded in John 4:5-42.

Sychar appears in 1 Bible verse: John 4:5.
