Shimrith, who also was known as Shomer, was a Moabite woman who was the mother of Jehozabad who killed King Joash of Judah.
Shimrith's son, Jehozabad, and another man named Jozabad, murdered King Joash while Joash was sleeping. Jozabad and Jehozabad were officials of the king when they conspired against him, assassinating him at Beth Millo.
Shimrith is mentioned by name in 2 Chronicles 24:26. Her name is rendered as Shomer in 2 Kings 12:21.
The name Shomer means "Keeper of the Lord" or "guarded of the Lord."
