Ephrath was the woman Caleb married after his wife Azubah died (1 Chronicles 2:19). Ephrath gave birth to Hur.
The name Ephrath is a shortened form of Ephrathah or Ephratah. In 1 Chronicles 2:19, her name is rendered as Ephrath. In 1 Chronicles 4:4, she is referenced as Ephrathah.
Ephrathah also is a place name, the ancient name of the town of Bethlehem. Micah the prophet who lived about 2,700 years ago, refers to the town in which the Messiah would be born as "Bethlehem Ephrathah," in Micah 5:2, giving both the current and ancient names of Bethlehem, where Jesus was born about 2,000 years ago.
The name Ephrath means "fruitful land."
Next person in the Bible: Ephron
