Jannes and Jambres

Two men that according to Paul, "resisted Moses" (2 Timothy 3:8). They were the two magicians the Pharaoh called to match the miracles of Aaron and Moses. "as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses" Paul warned about those resisting the gospel, "so these men also oppose the truth." But like the sorcerers, he continued, "they will not get very far, for their folly will be plain to all, as was that of those two men." (2 Timothy 3:8-9).

The magicians in Exodus 7:11-12 were not named, they are common figures in Jewish tradition that tried to duplicate the miracles of Aaron and Moses. Paul puts a name to the two. They tried to duplicate the miracles of Moses in an attempt to discredit him before the Pharoh, but the Lord's power eventually prevailed.
