He was called Elymas the magician, and was a false prophet, at the time Paul was on his first mission, in Cyprus.
Elymas was jealous of the gospel that Paul preached and tried to turn the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, away from the faith.
Paul called him "You son of the devil" and told Elymas he would be struck blind for awile. "Immediately A dark mist fell upon him", and when the proconsul saw Elymas seeking people to lead him by the hand, "he came to believe, for he was astonished by the teaching about the Lord." (Acts 13:7-12).
